Our story so far

Invert Robotics began as a spin-out from the University of Canterbury's School of Engineering in New Zealand. 

Having developed the world's first climbing robot capable of climbing on stainless steel, Invert gained early success within the New Zealand dairy tank inspection market and investment and recognition were quick to follow.

2012 - Invert Robotics named Start-Up of the Year at New Zealand Hi-Tech Awards

2012 - Invert wins ANZ Flying Start Supreme Award 

2016 - Invert named Champion Small Manufacturer at Canterbury Champion Awards

2016 - Invert named one of the  Ten Most Promising Early Stage Companies at the New Zealand TIN100 Awards.

2018 - Invert Robotics named a winner at AkzoNobel Imagine Chemistry Competition

With strong customer feedback and venture capital backing, Invert Robotics took its services to the world. Opening offices in Australia, the Netherlands, France and Germany.

Invert now provides inspections services for 7 of the top 10 global dairy companies and is sought out by major consumer and industry brands worldwide.

Invert Robotics continues to grow its service offering and is also adapting its unique technology for application in new industries including chemicals, aviation, pharmaceutical, and power generation.

By using technology, we can perform tasks remotely and eliminate the risks involved in working in confined and hazardous spaces. Our ultimate goal is to eliminate the need for people to enter any confined and hazardous environments providing our children with a future which is safer, more colourful and sustainable.

Managing Director

For more than 25 years Neil has worked across the globe and is highly experienced in commercialising technology, the last 12 years spent growing technology companies and delivering shareholder value. Neil’s role is to guide Invert through this high growth phase and beyond.

For more than 20 years Frans has developed his financial experience in international engineering and manufacturing environments, after starting his career at one of the big audit firms. Building up financial teams, setting up and improving financial and business processes and tax planning across the globe.

James Robertson

Director, Technology

James is the Founder of Invert Robotics. After graduating as a mechatronics engineer, James  identified the opportunity to disrupt industrial inspection markets using climbing robot technology.  James led the business from product development through to global expansion.  James’s role now is to identify new opportunities to use and adapt our unique climbing technology, using his unique blend of technical and business skills.

For more than 20 years Robert has built a global experience level in commercial and operational roles. He has worked in a high pace and technology driven service business from local to global level. Robert will bring the needed experience and seniority to form a solid foundation to enable Invert to grow to the next level.
